December 11 – 15, 2017

I know most of the kids (and you!) are ready for this long and well deserved vacation, but we still have one more week of fun in the classroom!  I try to keep this last week before Winter Break as engaging as possible, so we will have project presentations, winter-themed art projects, and a party at the end of the week.

Please visit this sign up page to volunteer and provide donations for the party, which will take place on Friday, 12/15/17.

Winter Holiday Projects are due Tuesday.  Please make sure your student is ready to present by then!

Note that ALL homework this week will be due Thursday — there will be no assigned homework on Thursday night to let the kids make up any missing work and turn it in Friday.

Please note that there will be NO comprehension, language, or spelling test on Friday.  We will be taking the math District Assessment sometime during the week.

Welcome to another fabulous week here in Room 5!  We should be learning lots this week and having lots of fun!

This week in Room 5…

In math, are working on Chapter 6: Fractions and Mixed Numbers.  This week, we will finishing working Mixed Numbers and Improper Fractions, and beginning Fractions of a Set..

• Chapter 3 test corrections are due December 8, 2017 (this Friday!)

In ELA, we will continue to work on the next story The Earth Dragon Awakes.  In grammar, we work on modal Auxiliaries (may, might, can, could, would, should, and must), as well as the Greek and Latin word parts spect, struct, tele, and vis..

• There will be a comprehension, language, or spelling test on Friday.
• AR: 30% of the Trimester goal to be on track.

In Social Studies, we will be working on the Winter Holiday Research Project.  Projects will be presenting beginning Tuesday, December 12.  Any projects not completing in class this week will need to be finished at home over the weekend!
In Science, we continue working with Rocks and Minerals (Chapter 3).  We will start this week by learning about Igneous Rocks.
